About the Drawing

The 2025 UEFA Women's European Championship Final brought England and Spain together once again, two years after meeting in the FIFA Women's World Cup Final. This time the stage was Basel, Switzerland, with both teams having established themselves among the strongest in the women's game.

I made this drawing while staying in London, looking after my brother's house and his two cats. Listening to both talkSPORT and Tiempo de Juego, I moved between English and Spanish commentary throughout the evening. Hearing the match from two different perspectives felt somehow appropriate for a final between two countries I know so well.

The match was closely contested and eventually decided by a penalty shoot-out. Prince William and Princess Charlotte were there to support England, while Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofía travelled to support Spain. It felt like another sign of how much the women's game had grown, drawing attention and support far beyond the football itself.

Whenever I look at this drawing, I remember more than the football. I remember those days in London, the quiet company of two curious cats, and the voices from two countries coming together through the radio. England successfully defended the European title they had first won in 2022, while Spain once again showed why they remain among the strongest teams in the world. This drawing has become a memory of both the match and the place where I happened to be when I made it.
