Looking for that Special Match? Team? Player?
Cassandra has drawn many games over the last 20 years
Mainly inspired by Spanish and English Radio Stations

It Really Started Here...
January 2000, artist Cassandra Constant is in Rio de Janeiro visiting her brother, Adrian, and family. Pure chance has it, they run into an old friend, Francisco (Paco) Quiroga, then Head of Broadcasts for a well-known Spanish radio station - he was there covering Real Madrid Club de Fútbol's participation in the FIFA Club World Championship.
The following days were so much fun... Maracaná Stadium, matches, following the players, these were the days of Morientes, Sanchís, Raúl, McManaman, Roberto Carlos, Hierro... and, somewhere there's a photograph of Cassandra with a 17-year old Iker Casillas!
Cassandra also met Manolo Lama, the famous Spanish radio commentator, and - little did she know at the time, she'd be drawing inspiration from many of "his" matches years later.
Back in Madrid, Paco showed Cassandra the studios and how the radio programs worked. Seeing the legendry advertising-prescriber-animator-entertainer, Pepe Domingo Castaño, in full action added to the excitement of seeing football matches broadcasted live!

2000. Francisco Quiroga & Adrian Constant
Good friend (also known as Paco) & Head of Radio Broadcasts with Cassandra's brother. Both Real Madrid fans, in Maracaná Stadium, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Following FIFA Club World Championship.

2002. "El Madrid en La Cibeles"
Amazing winning goal by Zidane in Glasgow. Real Madrid win their 9th Champions. The fans that night went wild at "Cibeles" in the center of Madrid. Cassandra, after celebrating, went back to her studio and painted the energy! Town Hall/Post Office and Bank of Spain in the background. Spot "La Cibeles"?

2006. Artwork selected "Gregorio Prieto" competition, Valdepeñas, Spain
Real Madrid vs Dínamo de Kiev in 2005. On the pitch Casillas, Raúl, Roberto Carlos, Ramos, Van Nisteroy...

2005. "Raúl Scores"
Cassandra inspired by a very good view of wonderful goal scored by Raúl González for Real Madrid, a quick sketch is a layout for a painting. First exhibited in Aichi Museum, Aichi, Japan.

2006 - 2019
Cassandra has participated in eight shows with Pont des Arts at the Aichi Prefecture Museum of Arts, Aichi, Japan. On two occasions works exhibited were football matches.
Many years prior to this, Cassandra, who grew up in Spain where football was and still is very much part of daily life, matches constantly being relayed on the radio, she wondered, when a taxi driver would be listening to a match on the radio, How does he know where the ball is?
Supporting the Madrid teams, Cassandra, intrigued, began experimenting to see how she could "illustrate" this. Starting with cut-outs of players, drawing games directly onto printing plates, imagining all sorts of scenarios. Experimenting with different materials until eventually settling for some of the best graphite pencils on A3 size paper.
Football was also becoming an important subject in her artistic practice.
Cassandra listens mainly to radio station "Tiempo de Juego" of La Cope, but also to BBC5 Live, BBC World Service, Talksport, Radio Marca and others... always on the look-out and enjoying different narrating styles, in Spanish and English.
CASSANDRA IN ACTION...
Match starts and the frenzy begins! A sort of "shorthand" of words, names & symbols for yellow cards, offside, fouls, corners, throw-ins and the artist starts to get an idea of what´s going on! This is usually all interspersed with football gossip, advertisements, winning lottery numbers and latest news!
In 2024, Cassandra decides to take the drawings further, it's time to share the experience with a wider audience by making available prints of the matches.
Drawings are scanned, carefully photo-edited so as to pick-up the subtle gradations of the different graphite pencils used and proofs are printed - using the "giclee" process. Once approved, this becomes the original, digital file which is printed onto Hahnemülhe Photorag paper to produce an archival artwork to treasure forever. See FAQs for more information.
Prints are available in A3 and A4 sizes, they are open editions, signed digitally and each comes with a Certificate of Authenticity (COA).
In 2025, ArteBall is launched...

Cassandra never fails to amaze me. One moment she is drawing football matches from the radio, the next she is up a ladder painting artichokes on the wall of a restaurant!

I surprised my husband with a match of his favorite team, Spurs. It hangs in the den and it never fails to draw attention! Immediately ordered another for our son in London. Both are delighted!
